About Me

I work as an application developer with Ecotrust in Portland, OR. I design mapping and decision-support tools for the desktop and web. We’re located in the Jean-Vollum Natural Capital Center. I use the computer mainly for communication and better understanding of the world around me and not so much for pure entertainment value. I have mixed feelings about the tech world that is flourishing around us. It’s making the world seem smaller, more within our grasp. Yet, I feel there is a larger disconnect from the natural world than ever before.

I grew up at the mouth of the Columbia River in Warrenton, OR. I love the coast, the water, murky foggy days, dank lush forests. I feel a pretty deep connection to this place, its where I’m from. I now live upriver in Portland, OR with my girlfriend Dalina Young.

I make pots of the clay variety. Most are functional and for everyday use. I got my start out at the Mt. Hood Community College clay studio with Stephen Mickey when I was studying for my associates. Now I make pots out of my house with a treadle wheel built by Billy Martin. My work is available at my Off Halsey Clay website. The biggest reward to me is seeing the bond that a person forms with a particular piece. A handmade pot is an intimate object, at least I think so… decide for yourself.
